Broad research topics: Bat Ecology and Conservation, Citizen Science, Passive Acoustic Monitoring, Environmental Biomonitoring, Mountain Ecology.
Research interests: My research broadly concerns bat ecology and conservation. I focus on the effects of urbanisation and human activities on bat populations, providing recommendations for management and conservation strategies. My work often employs citizen science approaches and passive acoustic monitoring. I actively collaborate with protected areas and national parks to deepen our understanding of resident bat populations and to enhance conservation efforts. Additionally, I am a certified bat handler.
Projects: At MEG, I work as a research assistant on the PRIN project “BAT-SIGNALS”, aiming to develop and implement a non-invasive biomonitoring protocol using bats to track environmental contaminants. In collaboration with other institutions and labs, the project focuses on analysing the accumulation of heavy metals and organic contaminants (DDTs, PCBs, glyphosate) in guano and fur from several bat colonies in Northern Italy. The ultimate goal is to inform conservation strategies and enhance habitat management.
